A Review of MindShift Gear's Newest Series of ROTATION 180° Adventure Backpacks

Michael DeStefano September 16, 2020

MindShift Gear has just updated their popular ROTATION 180° series of adventure bags with the new 22L, 34L, and Pro 50L+ V2 editions, each completely redesigned with new features for active photographers who need to always be on the move.

I have used and reviewed just about every adventure photography backpack on the market at this point, and each has its own unique features and characteristics that try to set them apart from the competition. As I have said in all my bag reviews, I believe in the right tool for the right job. That means I don't want one bag that gets by as a jack of all trades; I want a couple of bags that do exactly what they are designed for exceptionally well. MindShift Gear attempts to separate themselves out in the adventure bag market with their very unique quick access secondary rotational waist pack system.

Leica Announces the SL2 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera: My First-Hand Impressions

Michael DeStefano November 6, 2019

Leica has just announced its successor to its full-frame mirrorless camera, and it just might be a sign they are listening to the demands of professional photographers. The Leica SL2 has a 47.3-megapixel sensor, an updated Maestro III processor, and is capable of 20 fps bursts. It can shoot video up to 5K 30 fps, C4K 60 fps, and has 5-axis IBIS.

The original Leica SL hit the market in 2015 with several interesting takes on what a mirrorless full-frame camera could be. Last year, I took the SL for a week in the desert and was surprised just how well the three-year-old camera performed. However, the mirrorless market is a lot different today, with a lot of competition, with even higher demands from photographers.

A Review of Shimoda Designs New Action X Series of Adventure Backpacks

Michael DeStefano October 22, 2019

Shimoda Designs made a big entrance into the adventure outdoor camera bag market with its original Explore series. Since then there has been a lot of competition from both new designers and industry leaders. Not to be outdone Shimoda is back with a new evolution of their previous bag with the Action X series. Outdoor camera bags designed for hiking and adventure sports are quickly becoming a highly competitive although still a niche market. Each new entrant brings new ideas and innovations that raise the overall market design. For us photographers who necessitate using these bags not only for tools but as a means to ensure our health and wellbeing in difficult working environments. This competition has vastly improved how and what we can carry into the field.

One last shot from Joshua Tree. I've spent weeks hiking and exploring the outback and yet there is so much more to see. Hopefully things get better and I'll be able to return later this year. Looking forward to it. #Hiking #camping #climbing #adventu
Joshua tree is one of my favorite place to cam, hike, and climb in the US. There is just something about both the community of people often found in and around the camping grounds and the ability to be alone in a wilderness that probably hasn't seen
Oasis in the desert. After a 15 min downpour the desert came alive like nothing I'd seen before. Pockets of water like this are a gathering point and help to sustain the local wildlife. #Hiking #camping #climbing #adventure #adven
Boston is starting to come alive again as spring slowly shows itself. Longer evenings means better photo opportunities as the Charles River area becomes more active.
